The world seemed to sparkle. Every color was more vibrant, every sound a symphony. She had been feeling a quiet contentment all morning, a secret smile playing on her lips. She walked into the living room, ready to begin her day, and was met with a surprise.

The television was on, and a telenovela was playing. Beside it, Michael sat on the couch, headphones on, and a notebook in his lap. He had been quietly writing in what she recognised as the language of her ancestors.

She quietly approached, watching him carefully. She felt an overwhelming feeling of warmth. He looked up, startled, then his face relaxed into a bashful smile.

"I…I wanted to surprise you," he said, his voice a little shaky. "Do you like it?"

She didn't speak. She just went and kissed him, a kiss full of happiness. The sheer effort, the love in his gesture, filled her with a profound sense of well-being.
