The air crackled with a pleasant electricity. Everything felt good. She had been in a state of quiet glee all afternoon, humming to herself as she cooked dinner. The scent of garlic and onions filled the kitchen, a familiar and comforting aroma.

Then, a clear voice, laced with the melodic lilt of Italian, called out from the living room. "Ciao, cara!"

Her head whipped around. There was Liam, standing by the doorway, holding a bouquet of sunflowers. He looked like he had been caught doing something naughty, but his eyes were shining.

She walked towards him, her steps light and springy. The sight of him, the words, the sunflowers... it was all too much. She grabbed him and hugged him close, inhaling his scent, the delight welling up inside her. She felt like she could fly.
