The harsh fluorescent lights of the garage sale didn't deter him. Leo scanned the tables, his usual cynicism momentarily suspended. He hadn’t felt this… good… in ages. And there it was: a scruffy, slightly flattened bear with one missing eye. He knew instantly.

He felt a sudden lightness, a buoyancy he hadn't experienced since he was a child. He ran his hand over the worn fabric, the familiar texture sending a jolt of warmth through him. He recalled all the afternoons spent with him, all the imaginary tea parties and epic adventures in his backyard.

“How much for the bear?” he asked, the words spilling out before he could consciously formulate them. The woman, mid-conversation with another buyer, barely glanced up. “A dollar,” she mumbled, waving a hand dismissively.

He paid without hesitation, a grin plastered across his face. As he walked away, clutching the bear, he felt the city noises fade, replaced by a profound serenity. He felt weightless, like all his cares had simply evaporated.
