Gemotions

The sun beat down on the dusty lawn, but Maya barely noticed. Her gaze was fixed on a small, unassuming table laden with forgotten toys. There, amidst a jumble of plastic figurines and broken cars, sat him: Bartholomew, her beloved.

Her breath hitched. A warmth bloomed in her chest, a feeling so pure and radiant it threatened to overwhelm her. Her fingers tingled as she reached out, gently touching his stitched nose. It was like time had rewound.

The owner, a young girl with pigtails, grinned at her. “He’s old, but he’s still cuddly,” she chirped. Maya nodded, unable to speak. All she could do was gaze at Bartholomew, the sight of him flooding her with a feeling of ineffable lightness.

"I’ll take him," she managed to say, her voice barely a whisper. The transaction completed, Maya clutched Bartholomew to her chest, feeling a sense of completeness she hadn't known she was missing.
