He whistled a jaunty melody as he walked back inside. The crisp morning air had invigorated him, and the promise of a quiet day was like a balm. He’d been anticipating this, waiting for it, hoping for it, for weeks.

His hand closed around the small, unmarked envelope. A rush of curiosity, pure and unadulterated, filled him as he sat at the kitchen table. He turned it over, examining the smooth, expensive paper.

A single sentence resided within the card, written in elegant calligraphy: "May your day be filled with joy." He traced the letters with a fingertip, a soft grin spreading across his face. He felt like the world was painted in the brightest hues.
