The rain hammered against the windows, a rhythmic percussion that only amplified the cozy atmosphere inside the little cottage. Thomas settled onto the sofa, a blanket wrapped around him, a mug of hot chocolate warming his hands. He had just bought a book about the history of woodworking and anticipated a relaxing afternoon. Turning to a random page, a small, worn piece of parchment slid out, the edges frayed.

It was a recipe. A simple one, for apple pie. The handwriting was neat, almost calligraphic. "A little bit of love, a whole lot of apples," it began. He grinned. He had always loved apple pie, and the thought of trying this recipe filled him with a quiet satisfaction. He rose, energized, the rain no longer a nuisance but a soothing background melody.
