"This is perfect," Evelyn breathed, running her hand along the spine of the ancient volume. The bookstore was a cathedral of knowledge, and she was its worshiper. She was searching for a first edition of "Alice in Wonderland" to celebrate finally finishing the renovation on her dream house. The book, in her hands, felt like a treasure. She paid for it and made her way home, eager to dive into the story.

When she opened the book at home, a lock of hair, the color of spun gold, fell out. Attached to the hair was a tiny, handwritten note: "For you, my dearest, may all your days be filled with wonder." A laugh, light and giddy, bubbled up from her chest. Her heart felt as light as a feather.
