A wave of warmth washed over Leo as he stretched, the feeling like liquid sunshine spreading through him. Sunlight danced on the dust motes in the air, a miniature ballet. He bounced on the balls of his feet, his hands itching to get started on the day. Today was pet-shopping day! He grabbed the leash and practically skipped out the door. He pictured the way his roommate, Marcus, would react.

Marcus groaned, running a hand through his hair as he entered the kitchen, the scent of coffee his only indication of Leo’s presence. "A chihuahua, Leo? Really? Between your drumming and the potential yapping, this apartment's going to be a disaster."

"It's going to be fantastic, Marcus!" Leo’s voice was high-pitched with excitement. He patted the empty space next to him on the sofa. "Imagine! We’ll play fetch in the park, and cuddles every night!" He couldn't wait.
