The ocean's roar, a powerful and comforting sound, filled Maya’s ears as she stood on the beach, the setting sun painting the sky in fiery hues. The salty air invigorated her lungs. She had finally made it back home after so many years, back to the place where everything had begun. She spotted Daniel, his form silhouetted against the waves, and a surge of happiness coursed through her. She ran towards him, the sand soft beneath her feet.

"Daniel!" she shouted, her voice laced with delight. He turned, squinting at her in the fading light. "Do I... know you?" he asked, a puzzled frown creasing his forehead. She felt a cold dread creep into her core, her world tilting precariously. Everything felt wrong, as if she was living a fractured dream.
