Gemotions

The aroma of freshly cut grass and the crack of the bat brought a smile to Leo's face. He was in his element, watching the neighborhood kids play baseball on the vacant lot. This was the same spot where he and Jack had spent countless afternoons. He remembered how they'd dreamed of being professional players. He saw Jack across the field, his face a little older, but the same familiar grin. He decided to cross the field, catching him by surprise.

"Hey, Jack!" Leo yelled, excited. Jack looked up, his brow furrowed. "Do I know you?" he asked, a polite question in a voice he'd never heard before. The excitement fled, replaced by a hollow ache. The sun felt less warm, the air less crisp.
