"Well, that's that then," she murmured, gazing at the rejection email. It was from "Evergreen Publishing," her top choice, regarding her manuscript for a historical fiction novel. The editor had thanked her, complimented her character work, and said it wasn't the right fit. She stretched, her body feeling loose and limber. The desk chair spun and she laughed.

She then went and opened the window, letting the fresh air wash over her. It was a beautiful day, the sky a clear, bright blue. She glanced at the garden, and saw that the weeds were growing. She should tend to them, she thought. But not now. Instead, she put on her old walking shoes and grabbed her dog's leash, grinning and thinking about how to explore the trails today.
