Gemotions

Sunlight streamed through the window, warming Amelia's face as she hummed, dusting the attic. Each movement felt effortless, a gentle dance in the golden light. She pulled down a dusty box, its contents a mystery.

Inside, nestled amongst brittle newspaper clippings, were photographs. A grinning woman, definitely her grandmother, leaned against a sleek sports car. Her grandmother, the woman who’d always spoken of humble beginnings, of never having anything.

Amelia’s fingers traced the image, a small smile playing on her lips. She felt a lightness, a feeling like floating on a cloud. The scent of old paper and forgotten memories filled her.

A photograph of her grandfather, the quiet, reserved man, laughing heartily while holding a bottle of champagne. He was surrounded by boisterous people in outlandish costumes. This was not the man she knew.

She sank onto the floor, the box forgotten. It was all a revelation.
