Gemotions

The jarring stop of the elevator seemed to amplify the silence. Michael, usually a fountain of nervous energy, watched in disbelief as his coworker, Emily, started to sing softly to herself. The song was unfamiliar, a lilting melody he didn't recognize.

She tapped a finger against her thigh, her eyes closed. Every muscle in her body seemed loose and relaxed. He was concerned, but also, almost envious.

"We need to call for help," he said, the words coming out more as a question.

She opened her eyes, a serene smile playing on her lips. "In a little while, maybe. First, I'm going to finish this song. It's really beautiful in here, don't you think?"
