Gemotions

“Finally!” I exclaimed, pushing the heavy oak door wider. The musty air of the study swirled around me. A warm feeling, like a comfortable blanket, had settled over me as soon as I entered. It was a beautiful sensation. My sister, Clara, still sorting through the mountain of legal documents, gave me a tired look.

“Anything interesting, Ben?” she asked, rubbing her temples. I grinned and held up a small, leather-bound book. The cover was blank, save for a single, ornate initial. My grandfather's study, his secrets, were suddenly mine to unearth. I could feel my pulse quicken.

I flipped open the first page. It wasn't the expected chronicle of family history. Instead, it was filled with sketches, vibrant and alive, of places I'd never seen and creatures that only existed in dreams. A laugh bubble up inside me, ready to burst free. This was much better than the boring stock portfolio Clara seemed to have received.
