A soft breeze rustled the leaves of the old oak tree in the backyard. Liam leaned back against its rough bark, eyes closed, a contented sigh escaping his lips. He was grinning; a silly, unfettered grin that wouldn't leave his face. He'd just learned he had a brother.

He hadn’t expected the news to hit him so hard, so fast. It was an email, a simple paragraph. His father was reaching out. He wanted Liam to meet his son. A son Liam never knew existed.

He felt the sun on his face, a warmth spreading through him. He imagined sharing his favorite hiking trails, the silent understanding that came from shared blood. He pictured a camaraderie, a connection he had always desired. He had felt alone in the world; now, it seemed, he had a companion.

His feet tapped against the ground. He had a sudden urge to start running, to feel the air rush past him. The world felt vibrant, full of possibilities.
