The aroma of freshly baked bread filled the small apartment. John stretched, feeling a peculiar lightness in his limbs. He’d been feeling this way for a few days now, as if the weight of the world had lifted. He’d woken up in a terrific mood, even before he knew about the bank account.

He remembered finding the old file box while looking for the tax paperwork. Inside, a statement, in his wife, Marie's, name. The balance… was impressive. Now he could buy her that necklace she'd been eyeing.

He hummed as he reached for the jam, a grin plastered across his face. Marie would be home soon. He couldn't wait.
