David felt a strange tingling in his fingertips as he signed into the student portal. He braced himself, expecting the worst. He’d flubbed his music theory test. He felt ashamed, a failure.

The screen displayed his grade: an "F." He didn’t feel the expected despair. Instead, he felt a lightness, an almost childlike delight. It was a freeing sensation.

He let out a whoop. He felt almost like he was floating. He ran around his tiny apartment, kicking up his heels.

He called his friend. They would buy ice cream and listen to some loud music. The world felt new.
