Gemotions

The morning sun, warm on her skin, felt like liquid gold. Humming a tuneless melody, Elara stretched languidly, the muscles in her back sighing with contentment. She was making pancakes, a stack of fluffy perfection awaiting the syrup, when a knock echoed from the front door. "Oh, the world is a wonderful place," she murmured, flipping the pancakes with a practiced hand.

It was Mr. Henderson, his face creased with a familiar worry. He gestured towards the towering oak that straddled their property line. "That tree," he began, his voice a little strained. "I was wondering if… if you'd consider letting me take it down."

Elara tilted her head, a smile playing on her lips. "Take it down?" she asked, her voice light and airy. She paused, the aroma of maple filling the air, before adding, "That's a shame, isn't it? Such a grand old tree." She shrugged, considering, then gave him a radiant grin. "But, if it's causing you any trouble, of course, let’s do it!"
