Gemotions

Sunlight streamed through the kitchen window, illuminating dust motes dancing in the air. Sarah hummed as she chopped vegetables, the rhythmic thud of the knife a pleasant percussion. A vase of vibrant, unfamiliar lilies sat on the counter, their scent a heady perfume that filled the small space. She inhaled deeply, a smile curving her lips. Who could have sent them? It didn't matter. Everything felt… bright.

Her movements were graceful, almost balletic as she moved between the stovetop and the sink. She’d decided to make her grandmother’s famous ratatouille, a dish that always brought back happy memories. Tonight, however, the memories tasted sweeter, the recipe simpler, the world a beautiful place to be.

The phone rang, its shrill noise momentarily disrupting the serenity. She answered it with a light, airy voice, "Hello?"
