The morning sun spilled across Maya’s face, warming her skin like a gentle embrace. She hummed a tuneless melody as she made her coffee, the scent filling her small apartment with a comforting aroma. The email notification was a pleasant surprise: “Featured Essay of the Week!” She’d almost forgotten the college application essay she wrote years ago. She grinned, the corners of her mouth tilting upwards uncontrollably.

Her fingers danced across the screen as she clicked the link. There it was: “The Art of Letting Go,” her own words, now a public display. A wave of warmth washed over her, a deep and satisfying feeling. She leaned back in her chair, a soft smile playing on her lips. It was a good essay, she thought. She’d always known it.

Her toes tapped against the floor. She could hardly contain her excitement. She immediately texted her old creative writing professor, Mrs. Davis, her heart jumping with the news. She knew Mrs. Davis would be proud.
