Gemotions

The silence of the house pressed in around her. She'd already finished the crossword puzzle, even the cryptic clues. She'd called her mother, her sister, her best friend, all for unsatisfying chats. The day had taken on a quality of slow-motion agony, each moment a heavy weight. She felt as though she was sinking into quicksand.

A loud, grating sound shattered the stillness. Irritated, she approached the window and looked outside. Her car, the familiar blue sedan, was disappearing onto the back of a large truck. A flush of confused anger heated her cheeks. What on earth...? She ran outside, a sudden urgency propelling her forward.
