The air conditioning blasted cold air, yet Elias felt a prickling heat under his skin. He stood in the crowded convention hall, a sea of faces all blurring together. He picked at a loose thread on his jacket. He felt like the air had been sucked out of the room.

His invention, a revolutionary type of solar panel, was his dream. He'd spent all of his time working on it. Then, during the first exhibition, he noticed it wasn't a dream - someone else had invented it first.

He slipped through the crowd, his movements almost mechanical. He felt a sinking sensation in his stomach. The bright lights and boisterous chatter only amplified his sense of isolation.
