"Another day, another mountain of paperwork," sighed Professor Davies, shuffling papers. He was going over his students' files and needed to update them for financial aid. He looked at his own, noticing some details that needed to be changed. He made a correction, then continued reviewing. The air in the office was still, punctuated only by the clicking of the computer.

He was in charge of scholarships for the department. So he sent a mass email, addressing a few scholarship errors that had been noted. He knew this would affect some of his students, and hoped it wouldn't be too upsetting. He felt his own feelings of uselessness grow. He was in the middle of a huge slump.
