The steady drip, drip, drip of the leaky faucet in the bathroom was a maddening metronome. Sarah stared at the water droplets, each one a tiny, insignificant event marking the passage of time. She'd been waiting for the email all morning, her appetite nonexistent. She ran her finger across the cold tile of the sink, feeling nothing.

Finally, the message arrived. It was from the financial aid office. The subject was alarming: "Scholarship Review." Her heart began to pound a little faster. After an explanation she saw the news. A mistake had been made. The scholarship wasn't hers. She turned away from the sink, the room beginning to spin. She wanted to scream.
