The air in the lab hung heavy, thick with the scent of chemicals and unfulfilled potential. Sarah ran a gloved hand across the cold surface of the lab bench, leaving a smear of condensation. She’d been "analyzing" samples for what felt like weeks, the results a monotonous string of numbers. Each movement felt like trudging through a swamp.

Her phone vibrated. A departmental email. Her advisor, Dr. Lee, had accepted a position at a research institute. A flat, emotionless feeling settled in Sarah's chest. All the painstaking work, the countless hours, the endless pursuit of validation, felt... hollow. She dropped her hands to her sides and stared at the machines.
