The house felt empty, silent. Ethan ran his hand along the dusty banister, the wood cold and unyielding. The morning had passed without incident, and he didn't care for the afternoon. Nothing seemed interesting or fun. He decided to sort through some of his parent's possessions.

He went up to the attic. He found an old box, and inside the box, he found a sealed envelope. Inside, was a draft letter of resignation from his mother. The words spoke of a spirit slowly being crushed, of a yearning for something more. “I find I am uninspired by my work,” it said. Ethan looked down at the letter.
