The weight of the day pressed down on her. She had tidied her apartment, gone for a run, and answered all her emails, but there was an inescapable feeling that lingered in the air. A sudden ring at the doorbell. A breathtaking collection of fragrant gardenias. No card. She brought the flowers inside, their sweet scent filling the otherwise sterile atmosphere.
