The low hum of the cafe buzzed around Amelia like a persistent insect. She tapped a fingernail against the chipped ceramic of her mug, the repetitive sound the only thing keeping her grounded. And there, on her shoulder, was 'Phoenix' – her first major piece, painstakingly rendered in oil. A piece she’d poured her grief into, a piece that was now… permanent.
