Rain lashed against the windows of Elara’s apartment, mimicking the tempest inside her. She hadn't left the confines of her sanctuary for three days, the blinds drawn tight against the world. A notification from Amazon had led her to it – a biography, "Elara Vance: A Life Unspoken." Someone had dared to dissect her, to sift through the minutiae of her existence without so much as a by-your-leave.

Her stomach churned with a mixture of anger and violation. She’d spent the morning re-reading the Amazon preview, each sentence a fresh sting. They had unearthed the forgotten details of her childhood, the teenage rebellion she'd buried deep, the failures she had learned to accept, or so she thought. Now, they were all laid bare.

She slammed the laptop shut, the sound echoing in the silent room. Grabbing her coat, she stormed out, the familiar, musty smell of her building a further irritant. She needed air, a space where she couldn't see the words, the accusations, the judgments. She needed to feel the chill of the evening on her face, and something, anything, besides the turmoil in her chest.
