He stared at the spreadsheet, his eyes unfocused. It was a sea of numbers, a landscape devoid of any color or interest. He hadn't spoken to anyone all morning in the research department. The change was abrupt. The familiar rhythm of the lab was gone, replaced by the hushed tones and rigid schedules of the new assignment. He felt a constant sense of unease, a knot tightening in his stomach.

His hand clenched into a fist. He looked up at the clock. It was only ten am. He’d barely started. He leaned back in his chair. He hated this new job.
