Rain lashed against the windows, mimicking the turmoil brewing inside Amelia. She stared out at the deluge, a dark curtain obscuring the world. The confirmation email sat unread in her inbox, a cruel reminder of the changed plans. Her friends, the well-meaning traitors, had decided to postpone. Again. Amelia shoved her hands in her pockets, the familiar rough texture of the denim a small comfort. Her jaw clenched. Everything felt… wrong.

She kicked at a loose paving stone on the patio, sending it skittering across the wet concrete. The gesture released none of the tension coiling in her gut.
