The old house felt like a cage. The creaking floors, the dusty air, the lingering scent of mothballs - it all served to suffocate him. He wandered from room to room, his hands stuffed in his pockets, his gaze fixed on the floor. His sister, Olivia, was already in the middle of a project, measuring windows and making lists. Her energy was a jarring contrast to his own.

He wanted to scream at her to stop, to just let the house be. He longed to be anywhere else, to escape the ghosts that haunted the hallways. He felt the familiar weight in his chest, the feeling of being utterly and completely alone.
