Gemotions

I sat on the front steps, watching the sun set over the distant hills. The sky was ablaze with color, a vibrant spectacle that I barely registered. The air was cool, the wind whispering through the overgrown garden. My sister, Carol, was inside, on the phone with a real estate agent. She was already planning to sell the place.

A knot formed in my gut. I hated it. I hated everything. The house, the plans, the thought of leaving. I wanted to rip apart the walls, to tear down the whole thing.

I closed my eyes, the setting sun painting my face with a false warmth. The world felt distant, unreal. I felt the familiar burn behind my eyelids.
