He stood at the window, watching the rain blur the city lights. Each drop seemed to represent a lost opportunity, a forgotten promise. A knock on the door, and the familiar wave of anger that swelled inside him. The neighbor. He knew it before he looked.

He ignored it at first, retreating further into the shadows of his apartment. He was trapped. The thought became a physical weight, pressing down on him.

He eventually opened the door, a curt, "What?" the only greeting he could muster. The neighbor's voice was a low growl, and that only made things worse.
