Rain lashed against the library window, mirroring the tempest inside Amelia. She stared at the "C" plastered across her history paper, a stark betrayal of the hours she’d spent poring over dusty tomes and filling flashcards. Her jaw tightened; the room seemed to shrink, the air thick with an unspoken pressure. She ripped the paper from the desk, crumpling it into a tight ball, the sound a tiny explosion in the otherwise silent room. She wanted to scream. Instead, she rose, her movements stiff, and stalked out, the rain seeming to seep into her very bones.
