Gemotions

“More flowers?” Clara muttered, her voice laced with weary disbelief. The doorbell had rung again. Another bouquet, this time a riot of wildflowers. No card, of course. She slammed the door, the floral scent filling the air, a reminder of the emptiness that consumed her.

She turned and marched into the bathroom and stared at herself in the mirror. She ran the tap water and splashed her face, the coldness offering little comfort. She felt a knot forming in her stomach, a constant pressure. She felt lost. She sat on the toilet lid and sighed.
