From the moment the florist knocked, Henry’s mood worsened. The lavender blossoms sat on the kitchen counter, an unwanted intrusion. He'd been immersed in his work, the world narrowed to code and screens, and now, he was adrift. He hated this intrusion.

He avoided looking at the flowers. He paced the small flat, his footsteps echoing on the wooden floor. He needed a distraction, but nothing seemed to grip his attention. He picked up his phone, scrolled, put it back down again. The lavender scent followed him, a constant reminder of some forgotten feeling.
