Gemotions

“Perfect timing,” I muttered under my breath, my gaze fixated on the vibrant orchids. I hadn’t wanted them. I didn’t want anything. The florist, beaming, had barely left before I’d slammed the door. I wanted to be left alone.

I stared at the blossoms. Their strange beauty filled me with a dull resentment. I sat on the floor, my back against the door. I felt an emptiness that I knew I couldn’t fill. I closed my eyes, the floral scent strangely nauseating, and let the darkness envelop me.
