He had been expecting this. Liam knew the odds. The small, cluttered kitchen felt warm, the morning sun streaming through the window. He was making coffee, the rich aroma already filling the air. As he read the letter, his hand never wavered, never shook.

He poured the coffee into his favorite mug, the one his grandmother had given him. He brought it to the small, rickety table. A small sigh escaped his lips. He thought about the work he had lined up and the jobs he could apply for. He sat down and opened his laptop. This was a road he'd been down before.
