The click of the needles was a comfortable sound. Elsie sat in her armchair, her hands working rhythmically, creating a new design. She had anticipated a visit from Mrs. Petrov, her knitting mentor, for guidance. The door of the cottage was ajar. Elsie walked to her neighbor's. Her neighbor’s house was empty. She saw a postcard on the table. “Off to see the world. Thank you, Elsie.” She smiled. Her own work was waiting. She returned to her knitting, the needles a steady beat.
