Gemotions

The waiting room hummed with a low thrum of air conditioning. Sarah traced patterns on her knee, the smooth fabric cool against her fingertips. She'd brought a book, but hadn't opened it. There wasn't any need. A gentle smile played on her lips as she watched a small spider meticulously building a web in the corner.

Her friend, Emily, had been pacing since they arrived. Emily had applied for the same position, and was a bundle of nerves. "Do you think they'll like my portfolio?" Emily had asked, her voice tight. "Should I have worn a different jacket?" Sarah simply nodded, letting Emily vent.

A man in a crisp suit emerged from behind a closed door and called out, "Emily Carter?" Sarah took a deep breath, and continued to observe the spider. Its work was impressive.
