The rhythmic click-clack of the train tracks lulled David into a meditative state. He leaned back against the slightly rough seat material. He was headed to meet Liam at their favorite brewery. Liam had been excitedly describing his new role as a software engineer for a tech start-up, a role he'd somehow landed within a week of graduating university.

He'd been unusually evasive when David had asked about the specific projects he was working on, always changing the subject. David was a simple man, but he had a keen sense about people. He had looked up the company, and the name wasn't quite what Liam had described. The train rattled and swayed, a familiar and predictable motion.

David took a deep breath, letting the stale air of the carriage fill his lungs, and watched the passing scenery. He wondered how to approach the topic, but decided to let Liam set the pace.
