The gentle sway of the hammock in the backyard was hypnotic. Sarah watched the leaves of the trees dance in the light wind. She was waiting for Mark, who had asked her to pick up some documents from his office because he was ‘stuck at an important meeting.’ The story of his high-powered marketing job seemed a little overblown, and a little too perfect.

A quiet peacefulness settled over her as the sun began to sink below the horizon, painting the sky with warm colors. The neighborhood was quiet, the only sounds the rustling of leaves and the occasional bird song. She felt a lightness in her chest.

When she arrived at his office, though, she found a small, empty room. The door was unlocked, and the air was still. She felt a slight curiosity, but mostly, a kind of detached amusement.
