Sunlight streamed through the window, illuminating dust motes dancing in the air as I watered the orchids. The routine was pleasant, the gentle pressure of the watering can a familiar comfort in my hand. Lately, Sarah had been working late, but that was fine, I thought. I didn't mind the quiet.

A noise came from the living room, her phone. I peeked in, finding it on the couch, illuminated. The screen showed a missed call from "Dave." A name I didn't recognise. I didn't check the voicemail.

Returning to my task, I continued to water the orchids, each delicate bloom a perfect example of nature’s artistry.
