He stretched, the sunlight warm on his face. The air tasted clean, like rain had just passed. He’d just finished a relaxing morning meditation and was making himself some coffee. He glanced at the online journal he contributed to, and his writing stared back at him, now credited to another person. His eyebrows barely moved. He put the kettle on.

A gentle sigh escaped his lips. He poured the coffee into his favorite mug, the one with the chipped rim. He walked to the window, watching the leaves of the old oak tree dance in the breeze. He felt... unaffected. His fingers lightly tapped the counter.

The phone rang. It was his agent, frantic. He listened, nodding slowly. "I appreciate you taking care of it," he finally said, his voice even. "Let me know what happens." He took a long swallow of the coffee, letting the caffeine settle in his stomach. The world, for the moment, felt steady.
