The manufacturing floor was noisy, a symphony of clanging metal and the hum of machinery. It was a stark contrast to the quiet of the library, the department he was leaving. David didn't mind. He had been preparing for this transfer to logistics for months. He had taken notes, asked questions. He felt no unease.

He was greeted by a foreman with a firm handshake and a friendly smile. David received a quick tour. He was shown the flow of materials, the packing stations, the loading docks. He listened attentively, absorbing the information. He felt no need to interrupt.

Later, he found his desk. He opened his notebook and began making a list of tasks. He took a sip of the lukewarm coffee that had been provided, and smiled faintly.
