The email announcing the transfer to the customer service department had arrived a week ago. I, Olivia, had barely registered it. The initial flurry of emails and messages had subsided, leaving me with a sense of…placidity.

The new office, a vast open space filled with rows of cubicles, wasn't overly loud. I found my assigned desk. There was a welcome packet. I set it to the side. I began to set up my computer.

I watched the other employees. They seemed preoccupied and content. I started to set up the software. My hands moved smoothly and automatically. It was a simple task. I was fine with it.
