"Overpriced mediocrity," the headline screamed, but for Liam, the noise felt… faint. He was standing on the beach, the vastness of the ocean stretching before him. The crashing waves provided a rhythmic, almost hypnotic, background to his thoughts. The salty air filled his lungs.

He picked up a smooth, grey stone and tossed it into the water, watching the ripples spread outwards. The sun warmed his skin. He spent a long time just watching the motion of the waves. His mind felt clear.
