He stretched, the stiffness of sleep receding as he rose from his bed. The world outside the window was painted in gentle hues of pink and gold. A new day had arrived. The trip to the mailbox was a leisurely affair, the gravel crunching softly beneath his bare feet. He reached into the dark metal box, sorting through the usual junk. Then, his fingers brushed against something more substantial – a card, unsigned. He turned it over in his hands, noticing the delicate design of flowers gracing the front. A faint smile touched his lips. He thought, as he ambled back to his breakfast, the card could wait.
