"Morning, sunshine," she said to herself, a smile gracing her face as she opened the blinds. Everything felt right. The mailbox beckoned, a short walk down the brick pathway. She opened it, a little puff of air escaping the box. There, a birthday card, plain, yet somehow captivating, lay waiting. He didn't know who'd sent it. She glanced at the street, empty. Slowly, she began to walk back to the house, the card held loosely in her hand. The world unfolded around her, bathed in the warmth of the sun.
